| Bring along sensible clothing for the outdoors. Winter in the Outback are typified by cool to warm days and cold nights. Unfortunately, with the weather there are never any averages, so pack for cold and wet, dry and hot, and everything in between! The best approach for clothes is to wear layers that you can peel off as the day becomes warmer, you may be cold first thing in the morning and warm at midday | ![]() |

Dont you often find that when you go away you pack more gear than
you really need? As this tour is an expedition, space and weight are at
a premium. Since this is a round trip, you can leave items you do not need
to bring with you to the desert in Adelaide at your hotel. Your crew will
be eternally grateful if all your clothing can fit in a soft bag not
weighing more than 20kgs. We request a soft bag because they are easier
for us to pack. Dont bring your very best Guggi bags, just something
rugged and preferably fairly airtight that you dont mind getting dusty.
Ideally you should have 2 bags. One for your clothing, which is stowed and inaccessible during the day, and a small day bag that you carry in the vehicle holding items that you may require while you are travelling ie: Camera ,Binoculars,Torch Water bottle Note pad/pencil. There are also a couple of days where we stop for a shower while travelling and you will want to bring your towel and toiletries with you on these days in the vehicle. Just make sure it is not a huge bag, as it will need to be stowed under your seat or next to you in the vehicle. |

| Since fossils and aboriginal artifacts are off limits by law, and the usual assortment of tea towels and spoons are as tacky as always, desert sands make a great souvenir. Just collect a couple of spoonfuls at different stops, then pour the layers into a spaghetti jar or glass container when you get home. There are an amazing array of different colours.Bring along a packet of zip lock glad sandwich bags. | We
are travelling into some of the most remote country in the world, and
have to be well prepared. Your tour guides are trained in advanced and
remote area first aid, and we carry extensive first aid equipment, however
we are not a mobile dispensary, nor do we carry pain killers for everyday
use, and recommend you bring the following. |

| Our drinking water in camp is rainwater. We also provide cordial, tea and coffee in camp and table wines with dinner. Fresh coffee is always on at breakfast. If you wish to bring something else to drink please feel free. We have an icebox to store beer and soft drinks and room to store spirits. Do not buy cans, as they tend to rupture, buy drinks in glass. You can stock up on soft drinks regularly en route, and you can buy alcoholic drinks at Roxby Downs on day two and in the Flinders towards the end of the tour at city prices. Otherwise alcohol available tends to be prohibitively expensive. We find that people tend to drink more than they think they will, so err on the side of indulgence rather than temperance. The desert climate, combined with balmy evenings under the stars are certainly conducive to a moderate tipple! You may also want to bring a water bottle in case you want a sip of water while travelling or walking. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By nature deserts are dry places, and sure it is a fine as we are travelling to the more remote desert areas, water is at a premium. We are never whithout a wash or shower for more than a few days. Because the air is very dry, this is usually quite adequate, however occasionally you can expect to be a little on the nose. Toilet is usually a shovel and a toilet roll (which we provide- with a box of matches). A tub of Dettolwater is for hand washing. A good way to wash when we are in remote areas is to bring a flannel and some soap on tap .Bring along a small dish (something the size of a margarine container) . Youd be surprised how creative you can be. We travelled with a hairdresser once who washed and conditioned her hair with one cup of water! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Whilst some guests come to get away from friends and family, others like to stay in touch. Except on our Search for Gibson and Canning Stock Route trip we pass public phones every few days..If there is an emergency at home while you are away and you need to be contacted our emergency sattelite telephone number is 0410657681. If not urgent, a message can be left at our office, as we are in contact every couple of days. We have two HF long distance radios on board, which offer us a mantle of safety being always in contact with the RFDS if needed. | Accommodation is in twin share canvass minute tents. You can stand up in these, they are the standard zip up, pole in the middle garden variety. You are expected to erect and dismantle these, our staff are always on hand to help. Inside the tent we supply single thermarest air mattresses. If you hired a sleeping bag from us, this comes with an inner cotton sheet. You may wish to bring a small pillow with you, however if you Rolls Royce it with one of our heavy canvass swags, a pillow comes with Doona and Sheet, and all you need do is roll it up in the morning. There is plenty of room to change in our swags if you require some modesty. We reckon a swag is by far the most comfortable and convenient option. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A pair of gardenning gloves is a really handy thing to bring along. Great to use for collecting firewood, which often has prickles and burrs. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Chores | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Whilst your expedition crew look after most of the work, as a team member you are expected to assist with loading and unloading the vehicles, finding a spot to roll out your swag, assisting with dishes after the evening meal and after breakfast and helping load and unload the vehicles. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
