In the far north of Australia in the wet/dry tropics, including Darwin, The Gulf Country, Yorke Peninsular, and the Kimberley, there is a distinct wet and dry season. During the wet season, from November to March, many roads are impassable, whilst in the “dry” April – October, the weather is almost always perfect, around 30°C and fine. On the Canning Stock Route, the northern section, like the Kimberley is subject to tropical influences, travel is best from June to September. Central Australia is best travelled in the winter months, from April to October; the summers are oppressively hot. This also goes for the southern deserts, the Simpson and the Great Victoria. The southeast and west of Australia experience a more European climate with four seasons. The ideal time for travelling in these areas are the “summer” months, from November through to March.
