Day 1
The convoy departs Adelaide and heads north to Port Wakefield and through the wheatfields of the mid north to Port Augusta, where Sir Thomas Elder unloaded his camels that played such a pivotal role in the opening of the inland. We continue on past Iron Knob west to the town of Wudinna and camp north amongst granite monoliths. Explorers: Hack, Eyre.

Day 2
We travel north through the rolling hills of the scenic Gawler Ranges National Park, on private station tracks through Lake Everard Station to Childara Rockhole. We visit Louis Rocks and camp near Googs Lake. Explorers : Stuart, Denton, Horrock, Coulthard

Day 3
We travel north through the Yellabinna Regional Reserve along Googs Track, named after John “Goog” Denton, who together with his wife Jenny, built the track from 1973 to 1976, linking his property at Lone Oak northward to an abandoned track that was pushed south from Malbooma Railway siding on the Trans Australian Railway Line. The track crosses numerous sandhills through thick mallee scrub. We camp near Mt Finke and there is an optional climb to the summit. Explorers : Stuart, Giles, Denton.

Day 4
We visit Wynbring Rocks. The first European here was Ernest Giles. There is some spectacular stone work here where construction workers on the Trans line built a catchment and sump to supply water to the steam trains. We continue on to Ooldea and camp beneath casuarinas. Explorers: Daisy Bates, Giles, Bolam

Day 5
We visit Ooldea soak and the railway siding made famous by Daisy Bates, who lived here with Aboriginal people for nineteen years. The soak is an Aboriginal site of great significance, and there are extensive lithic deposits in the area. We head west past the memorial that marks the point where the east and west railway lines joined before arriving at Watson on the Nullarbor, the siding where equipment was unloaded for the Maralinga nuclear testing.

All meals commencing with lunch on Day 1 and concluding with lunch on Day 18
Transport as per the itinerary in a comfortable expedition vehicles equipped to travel the outback roads with experienced driver
Entry fees, permits, visits and entry fees
Use of appropriate reference materials
Support of a motor mechanic if needed for self-drive participants whilst in remote locations

Cost of transfers to and from Adelaide at the beginning or Melbourne at the end.
Comprehensive Travel Insurance
Costs of a personal nature
Any optional activities elected by participants
All camping equipment for self-drive participants
Fuel costs for self-drive participants
Costs associated with damage, breakdown and recovery of vehicles used in self-drive transport or costs associated with vehicle preparation for the program.
Self Drive Participants: You will be required to have a roadworthy, four wheel drive vehicle appropriately equipped for travel in isolated regions.
Fuel arrangements and a check list will be communicated to interested participants prior to departure.
Self-drive participants are required to assist by carrying up to three cartons or packages of food for common use and a Jerry can, with water, for use in the kitchen.

 
 

Day 6
We travel on a sealed road surveyed by Len Beadell northward to the Maralinga gate, and on to the range. We check out the remains of the village which housed the servicemen who worked on the seven atomic tests carried out in the late 1950s. We travel back to Watson Explorers: Beadell, Giles, Maurice, Jones, Delisser.

Day 7
We travel west following the railway line through the sidings of O’Malley and Fisher to Cook. At Cook there is a souvenir shop. Cook is also the only spot on the Nullarbor where the Indian Pacific stops to rewater and refuel. We camp north of Cook. Explorers Giles, Tietkins, Maurice.

Day 8
We travel north across the Nullarbor, eventually leaving the great plain behind and entering the sandhills of the Great Victoria Desert. We pass the Wyola lake system and Waldana Aboriginal well, eventually camping near Volkes Hill Corner.

We travel along the Anne Beadell Highway, camping west of Anne’s Corner.

Day 10
We visit the Emu Atomic Site, site of Totem One and Totem Two - the first nuclear tests on the Australian mainland. We are now on the Anne Beadell Highway, and we head east to Tallaringa Well. Explorer: Beadell

Day 11
The chance for a shower and a walk around the opal mining town of Coober Pedy before we head north along the Stuart Highway to Mount Willoughby. We camp on Copper Hills Station.

Day 12
We travel through Arckaringa and the picturesque Painted Desert to the township of Oodnadatta. There is the opportunity to shower and enjoy the ambiance of the Pink Roadhouse, visit the museum in the old Ghan railway station before we head south to camp near the Peake Overland Telegraph Repeater Station. Explorers: Ross, Stuart, Giles, Gibson, Lindsay, Hubbe

Day 13
We travel south along the Oodnadatta Track to the ruins Strangways Overland Telegraph Repeater Station, then visit the Wabma Kardarbu National Park, then taking station tracks through Stuart Creek Station to Wobmapianna waterhole. Explorers: Stuart, Warburton,Babbage, Howitt

Day 14
From Stuart Creek we travel to Marree, and then south into the stunning Gammon Ranges. Explorers Frome, Babbage, Stuart, Eyre, Parry, Madigan, Howitt, Dervish.

Day 15
Through the Gammon Ranges, we eventually arrive at Mt. Freeling, turning north onto the Strzelecki Track. We camp near the Cobbler Desert. Explorers: Babbage, Gregory, McKinlay, Hodgkinson, Sturt

Day 16
North along the Strzelecki Track we visit Wills and Burke’s grave sites on the Cooper, and the Township of Innaminka. Explorers: Burke and Wills, Howitt, Mckinlay, Redford

Day 17
We check out Cullyamurra Waterhole and the Dig Tree before travelling through the Jackson Oil and Gas fields, and a stop at the Noccundra Pub, before camping in the Narranappa Hills, our only camp in Queensland.

Day 18
We cross into New South Wales through the Warri Gate and continue south to Tibooburra. Check out the wild murals painted by Clifton Pugh on the walls of the Family Hotel before heading south to Pooles Grave and Depot Glen, where Captain Charles Sturt was marooned in the summer of 1845. We stop at the old mining town of Milparinka and continue south to our camp north of Broken Hill

Day 19
We take a look around Broken Hill before travelling east to Menindee. We visit Dost Mohammed’s Grave, and the Burke and Wills Campsite as well as the Maidens Hotel where Burke and Wills stayed. We camp further south near Mungo National Park.

We visit the shearing shed and the Walls of China in Mungo National Park before heading south to our camp north of Balranald on the Pringle Post Road in the Mallee.

We cross the Murray at Swan Hill and travel via Cow Swamp, Terrick, and Elmore to Melbourne arriving late afternoon.
